Just one thing really sounds goofy about a contest that says;

“Please send your vector files (.ai or .eps) or your high res. Psd files with layers intact and any fonts used in logo - to aaronova@gmail.com

Why would any one let you mess with there layered files for a contest???

“Their” layered files oops! still really weird for a contest…..

I am sorry than - you must have a misunderstanding.
No one is going to mess with someones layered files.

If someone wants to compete than they have to send the proper files.
If the client chooses their logo - than the designer will get the prize money….and in return the client would have rights to the Logo work file.

Just a Tip - Logos should be done using illustrator - vector format.
But for those who choose to use photoshop for this - it is fine too.
But the layered “Work” file is needed.

If you don’t think you will win - you don’t have to send layered files - since the layered files are only needed if the logo actually wins the contest.

All the best ,

Why you do not ask for screenshot? If you just want to see to your client then only picture will be enough.

Custom Icons (16:05:10) :

Logos should be done using illustrator - vector format.
This depends.
If you have the logo in only one format, or if a small size is needed (64×64 or below), I find it easier to do as a raster.
